Its been a challenging week!

Rain, More Rain, Even more Rain. What a very depressing week, every morning I got up full of hope for a day outside amongst my Veggies. Every day disappointment. 

I don't know where all this water is coming from. It was however causing some pretty huge puddles/lakes in the garden. So much so, I seriously considered purchasing an Ark! The poor chickens really could have done with one as their run, was under water. 

So where could you purchase an Ark? Well Ebay of course. Sadly not in this house.. Bl§*dy broadband . Wednesday  morning it just ground to an abrupt halt, midway through browsing the seed collection for the Autumn on the Thompson and Morgan website. So we were trapped in the house in the worse rain ever recorded in this county, with no internet, nothing on the Tv and no books left to read on my Kindle. I never realised how long a day actually was. 

Wednesday slipped into , Thursday and Friday, still no internet but lots of rain, and then suddenly overnight we had a visit from the Broadband Fairy and we were back in business, About the same time, It briefly stopped raining and allowed me to get down to the end of the garden and see what had been going on. 

Things had been growing vegetables and weeds, but the weeds had to wait because some things were ready to come indoors. 

Spinach was first 

I put it in a pasta sauce for tea, it was lovely, quite a strong flavour. The other contents of the sauce came from the supermarket, but I am growing all of the ingredients in the garden, so maybe some day soon, I can make the sauce with all home grown stuff. 

Next were the greenhouse tomato's. One had been teasing me for days, almost red but not quite, well finally it was ready and so was another on the same plant. 

 
To go with the tomato, obviously you need lettuce. The Kos were finally looking a decent size.

So one of them came in as well. (Including a couple of hitchhikers in the form of some very tiny slugs) 

They both tasted wonderful. 


I have already started thinking about later in the year, I therefore bought more seeds. I planted the Swede and Purple Sprouting Broccoli last week in the greenhouse and they have come on very nicely. 

The one on the left is the swede. I am not sure what I am going to do with them all if they grow, anyone know any good swede recipes? 


My potato bed is looking a bit sad. 

The leaves all died off and went yellow with horrible scaly edges. I have never seen it in real life, but it looked like Blight. So following the instructions I have cut all the vegetation off and got rid of it. The potato's though, do not appear to have been affected, and we are still getting a daily serving of freshly dug Charlottes. The Roosters will be coming up from next week. 


I have also ordered an Autumn planting seed potato collection from Thompson and Morgan, so soon enough I will have nice leafy vegetation again. 


Thats about it for now. The awful weather means we haven't been on any of our outdoor adventures this week, so no photos to post. 


My dad is arriving to visit this week from his home in Spain. He was the person who inspired me to garden, so I am looking forward to his reaction when he see's what I have achieved, in person.
